Béatrice de Larragoïti
Artistic Director//Co-Founder
Béatrice is the Artistic Director and one of the three founding members of Gothic Opera. She holds a Master of Music and a Postgraduate Artist Diploma from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, as well as Master’s in Literature from the University of Oxford, and degrees in Art History from the Sorbonne University and Ecole du Louvre. Led by curiosity and her field of research to become a keen defender of rarely performed romantic, fantastical and gothic operas, she was invited by the London Month of the Dead Festival to perform candlelit “gothic” recitals in singular venues, alongside pianist Karl Lutchmayer, and started then to shape the concept.
She has performed on various stages, festivals and concert platforms across Europe, America and the U.K., including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Grimeborn Festival, Oxford Lieder Festival, Saint-Martin-in-the-Fields, Opéra de Baugé and Opéra en Plein Air. Most recently, Béatrice performed the roles of Ludmila in Smetana’s Bartered Bride and the Bergère, the Pastourelle and the Chauve-Souris in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges at Opera de Baugé, where she will be returning in 2024 to sing Giannetta in L’Elisir d’amore. With Gothic Opera, Beatrice was Janthe in Der Vampyr, Agnès in La Nonne sanglante, Queen of Elves in Le dernier sorcier and Gretchen in Rip van Winkle.
